A Striping Good Time

With Baby Girl Granddaughter's arrival now expected in just around 9 weeks, time to get serious about her place to call home.  The One's mom and I have spent two gleeful evenings in the soon to be nursery, painting, dripping paint, laughing, giving each other a hard time, and having a superb time with our kids.  Note how the drop cloth, which is meant to catch drips, lays in a heap in the middle of the floor.  The animals regularly fly into the room as soon as the door is open to check on the progress.  Note blue dog toy at right.

Bright pink paint covers three of the walls. Orion and The One, of the Purple and Lime Green Wedding are not afraid of color.  White paint covers the fourth wall.  But not for long.

Orion is a sucker for lime green.  His room as a teenager, his prom tuxedo, and his wedding shoes were, you guessed it, lime green.  He longed for some lime green in his princess' room, so it was decided some stripes might be nice on the fourth white wall.

Originally the stripes were going to adorn the smallest wall, but The One liked the idea so much, she wanted to stripe the absolute longest wall in the room.

Here is the wall, all taped off.  No blood was shed, but they were some trying moments in the taping of the room.  We used a level, long straight edge and pencil to mark the lines.  Tough going.  Then, getting the pattern figured out proved to be something of a challenge.  It was The One's mom who saved the day by using the sample board as a template.  Calm in the face of adversity.  It was Orion who placed snippets of tape on the stripes that would remain white.  Another stroke of brilliance.

Orion was really concerned that the taping was not perfect.  He was assured that Baby Girl Granddaughter would not protest, well, at least not for several years, that her stripes were not absolutely, positively perfect.   Actually, they are very close, except for the last stripe, which is an inch short.  Tomorrow' project will be to fix it.

After a dinner together, The One's mom and I returned to painting the stripes.  They look a bit cartoonish right now with the blue painter's tape in between. A second coat of paint is needed for the bright green to ensure the best coverage .  Here is the project as it stands tonight.

One half-painted nursery,
Two happy moms splattered with pink and lime green paint,
Four family members sharing an evening together,
One little darling quietly taking it all in,
Priceless . . .
