And We're Off!

This unseasonably warm March Sunday gave way to thoughts of gardens and the food they give us.

Better Half and I set out to prepare part of the vegatable garden for planting.  The old reliable EZ Hoe made the job so EZ. Pun intended.

Better Half, boot and lower leg pictured below, rounded up some compost for the garden from our  black plastic bins.  To think, what you see in front of the bin used to be kitchen scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds, leaves and grass clippings.

.
The first lettuce and radish seeds are planted and put to bed in the cold frame, a purchase made years ago from Gardener's Supply. It's a mini-greenhouse.  The cold frame will warm the soil and allow the seeds to germinate and grow much earlier than would otherwise be possible. Radishes in 21 days with lettuce to follow soon afteward. Yum.

Mama grudgingly struck a pose with the resident garden rooster, Reginald, only mildly protesting at the idea of a staged photo. Can't you tell from the look on her face?   Actually, this photo was a stroke of pure luck.

As we sat for a few minutes at the end of the afternoon, savoring our day's work, a robin flitted across the yard, in search of a tasty fat worm.  I thought his/her coloring matched the leaves that still litter the North Forty.

Hope your day was every bit as fine as mine.  Here's to weekends!  Enjoy the coming week.  Big news coming this week for my family and me.  More later.
