Better Half and I found ourselves stuck in a traffic jam close to a Farmer's Market today in Clintonville Ohio. If a Farmer's Market caused a traffic jam, it had to be good.
So we stopped. Yes, it was good.
We bought ramps,
Ramps are garlic-onion-leek-like native plants that grow from the Carolinas to Canada.
Ramps are ripe for harvesting on the north face of mountainsides from late April to early May.
They are the subject of festivals in West Virginia.
Their flavor is apparently strong - a mix between garlic and onion.
The ramps we bought are on tomorrow's breakfast menu -
fried potatoes with ramps, brown eggs scrambled,
multi-grain bread from the Farmer's Market, bacon, and mom's cinnamon rolls.
Yum!
ANY EXTRA FOR YOUR BROTHER???
